Do

  • Connect every business bank account and card to a live bank feed.
  • Reconcile weekly. Ten minutes on a Friday beats a lost weekend at quarter end.
  • Snap receipts the moment you get them.
  • Use tracking categories if you want profit by location, product or project.

Don't

  • Dump everything into "General Expenses". You lose the insight you're paying for.
  • Create a new contact every time you pay the same supplier.
  • Leave a balance sitting in suspense and hope it goes away.
  • Treat Xero as a filing cabinet. It's a decision-making tool.
